🚶 The Downtown Springs Walking Itinerary
- Start: Basin Spring Park
Begin at the historic heart of the lower downtown district. This lively public square features a beautifully structured stone amphitheater and the legendary “healing” spring basin that initially put Eureka Springs on the map in the 19th century. - Stop 2: Sweet Spring
Route: Walk north along Spring Street for about 3 minutes.
Located right next to the downtown Post Office, you will find Sweet Spring tucked below street level. Walk down its detailed spiral stone staircase to see a meticulously landscaped pool surrounded by beautiful floral arrangements and vintage masonry. - Stop 3: Harding Spring
Route: Continue north up the Spring Street incline for another 2 minutes.
Harding Spring is famous as the site where local lore claims a blind woman’s sight was completely restored by the spring water. It features a quiet, terraced green space adorned with whimsical fairy doors and padlocks placed along the safety railings by visitors. - Stop 4: Crescent Spring
Route: Follow the curving stone retaining walls uphill for 4 minutes.
Positioned right next to the historic, native-stone Carnegie Public Library, Crescent Spring sits under a striking, open-air Victorian gazebo. The massive crescent-shaped limestone outcropping framing the park behind it gives the spring its name. - Stop 5: Grotto Spring
Route: Continue north along Spring Street for your final 4 minutes.
Your walk concludes at Grotto Spring near the Dairy Hollow area. This unique spot flows completely out of a dark, stone-lined cavern. Step inside the cave alcove to view the flickering perpetual candle glowing over the water basin.
